Easiest way to create a Gallery in WordPress

(the above was generated with this method)

It’s so simple you’re going to kick yourself for not using it.

To create a post/page in WordPress which becomes a gallery of images (thumbnails):

  1. Create a new page/post
  2. Upload/Attach images to the post or page using the ‘Add an Image‘ Upload/Insert feature above the content editor
  3. Add the shortcode “[ gallery ]“ anywhere in the post/page (remove the quotes and spaces)
  4. That’s it.  All images attached to that page/post will be displayed as a gallery

Some Options:

  • columns - How many columns will be used to display the gallery of images
  • size - What size should the images be presented in (“thumbnail”, “medium” and “large”)
  • orderby - Order to show the gallery

This is a great way to create simple galleries, listing of screenshots or a neat order display of images attached to a post/page.

Once a year we feature the most useful and interesting WordPress-themes that we are collecting over months and present them in a nice quick overview. The collections from 2007, 2008 and last year are still useful, but some of the themes are outdated or updated now.

Veign’s Blog updated to WordPress 3.0

This blog is now working off the lastest version of WordPress, WordPress 3.0. Very nice. Very impressed at how each version of WordPress it gets better and better.

Without getting into what’s better, I’ll just say that I’m glad they lightened the Admin area – was too dark before.

A better blogging platform means I can bring better content without adding overhead (in the way of time).  This is one of the reasons Blogger slowed this blog down – it’s a poor platform for anything more then an occasional blogger.

Is there anything you would like to see?  What type of posts would you like to see Veign make?

Top 30 WordPress Plugins that are actually useful!

The amount of WordPress Plugins available for download are endless, to sift through them and find one or two that you can actually use can be horrendous. Quite often you can find, like a Flickr Plugins, hundreds that do the same function. Others are far too complicated for the designer as well as the user to be useable. Some are even just pointless, and use up design space. How do you test all of them? Do you rely on word of mouth? Do you ask someone to write a plugin for your tailored needs?

10 Steps To Protect The Admin Area In WordPress

The administration area of a Web application is a favorite target of hackers and thus particularly well protected. The same goes for WordPress: when creating a blog, the system creates an administrative user with a perfectly secure password and blocks public access to the settings area with a log-in page. This is the cornerstone of its protection. Let’s dig deeper!

This article focuses on defending the administration area of WordPress, meaning all those pages in the wp-admin folder (or http://www.yourblog.com/wp-admin/) that are displayed after a user a verified. We bolded the phrase “after a user is verified” deliberately: it should be explicitly understood that only a simple query stands in the way of an evil hacker and the powerful admin area of your whole blog. The latter is only as strong as the passwords that are generated.
