Unhandled Perception

Google has made it easy to view your website as if you were GoogleBot (Google’s crawler) looking at your website.  Just follow these steps:

1. Create a Webmaster Tools account at Google
2. Add, and verify, your website
3. Login into Webmaster Tools
4. Select your website
5. Go to labs->Fetch As GoogleBot

Say that three times fast! You won’t summon the Candyman, but you will remember the name of this awesome service that can help you get found super quickly. By publishing to a PubSubHubbub Hub (you can use a public one or create your own using Superfeedr), you’ll automatically reach all PSH-compatible services including Google Reader, Friend Feed, and Feedburner. One-stop-shopping, people (and Richard promises that it’s super easy)!

Today, we’re announcing the completion of a new web indexing system called Caffeine. Caffeine provides 50 percent fresher results for web searches than our last index, and it’s the largest collection of web content we’ve offered. Whether it’s a news story, a blog or a forum post, you can now find links to relevant content much sooner after it is published than was possible ever before.

If this were a pile of paper it would grow three miles taller every second. Caffeine takes up nearly 100 million gigabytes of storage in one database and adds new information at a rate of hundreds of thousands of gigabytes per day.

Did you read that?  100 million gigabytes of storage in one database.  Wow.  That is massive.

The homepage of Pirate Bay disappeared from Google’s search results Friday, after Google allegedly received a DMCA takedown notice targeting the site.

The move is unexpected because, while the Pirate Bay is rife with pirated material, the site’s spare landing page contains no content to speak of — just links, a logo and a search box. By law, DMCA notices are targeted to specific infringing content.

At least for Google’s web search results currently (September 2009), the answer is no. Google doesn’t use the “keywords” meta tag in our web search ranking.

Using 101 tools for whatever purpose is not productive. At the end of the day you got to find your set of say 10 or 12 tools you’ll use. Everything else is just playing around and wasting your precious time. Thus this list will be the size of the usual SEOptimise list, approx. 30 items. I’ll concentrate on free SEO tools here as everybody can test them this way. Some of them are freemium that is they offer basic functionality for free and make you pay for the full fledged product.
