Flash Vs HTML5

The Flash Vs HTML5 debate has caused much discussion over the recent months and it certainly got us thinking here at Code. We believe the two technologies are not in competition and each have their purpose, but thought it might be amusing to actually put them in direct competition.

Add Face recognition to your web application

face.com

With billions of photos processed each month, and 10′s of millions faces recognized to date, face.com is operating the largest face recognition platform on the cloud. We’re extending our services to the developers community to make it easy to integrate with your services. We offer our platform services both a free and premium licensing, depending on your needs. We offer services for detecting,  recognizing, and tagging faces in any photo, through our REST API.

Need more hours in the day as I have some ideas for a web application using this facial recognition platform.

Two ways to use any font on a website

sIFR: sIFR is meant to replace short passages of plain browser text with text rendered in your typeface of choice, regardless of whether or not your users have that font installed on their systems. It accomplishes this by using a combination of javascript, CSS, and Flash.

cufon: In reality the generator is little more than a web-based interface to FontForge. First, the generator builds a custom FontForge script based on user input and then runs it, saving the result as an SVG font. The SVG font is then parsed and SVG paths are converted to VML paths.

Adobe issues patch for Flash

Critical vulnerabilities have been identified in the current versions of Adobe Flash Player (v9.0.159.0 and v10.0.22.87) for Windows, Macintosh and Linux operating systems, and the authplay.dll component that ships with Adobe Reader and Acrobat v9.x for Windows, Macintosh and UNIX operating systems. These vulnerabilities could cause the application to crash and could potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system.

Flip Book engine

Entirely customizable. Supports Zoom, print and download options. Can be configured either using HTML code, or via an external XML file.

I tend to not like effects like this on a website but can see where some website may benefit from it.

Basically you have to choose the objects around the cube one at a time, in the proper order, to get the cube to fully grow (see image below).
