Prevent websites from blocking the right-click menu in Firefox 3

Tools -> Options -> Content -> Advanced (top area)

Now just uncheck the Disable or replace context menus (highlighted above). It should be noted that some online applications attempt to replace the right click menu with a menu that is useful within the context of what you are doing (like Google Spreadsheets).

Mozilla to end support for Firefox 2

The Mozilla Foundation is planning to end support for the Firefox 2 browser in mid-December, despite the persistence of significant flaws in the most-recent version of the popular browser.

I fear that the support may end but users won’t switch – I still get 20%+ visitors using Firefox2. Not sure I can cross this browser off my list of browser which I design websites to render in.

Firefox 3: 8.3 Million downloads in 24 hours

Despite getting off to a slow start yesterday, the official release of the Firefox 3 browser was downloaded 8.3 million times (that’s the unofficial tally as of 11:16 AM PT today). Mozilla beat its goal of 5 million downloads by 3 million and set a new world record! All right, there was no previous world record, but it still represents a massive one-day adoption rate.

I looked at the stats for Veign.com and Firefox 3 covered over 4% of my traffic on download day.

Media Management in Gmail with Xoopit

Firefox extension Xoopit turns Gmail into a robust, searchable media management tool for every piece of media that comes through your inbox. By indexing every attachment as well as every link to photos and videos from sites like Flickr, Picasa, and YouTube, Xoopit allows you to easily search for and find any picture or video and view it from directly inside Gmail.

The only thing that makes this questionable is they want your Gmail login password. Not sure how many people are comfortable with that, but I’m not.

Internet Explorer and Firefox Vulnerability Analysis Report

For most people, their web browser is central to their interaction with the Internet, connecting to global web sites and helping them consume online services providing everything from booking flights to banking services to online shopping. This reality makes browsers a key tool when evaluating the security experience of users as the browser interprets Web content and programs delivered from around the world.

Over the past few years, there has been much discussion of the need for improvements in browser security, but few hard data studies performed to support assertions concerning the security of available browsers.

This report documents the results of my analysis of Internet Explorer and Firefox vulnerabilities over the past few years since Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP SP2 became available and Mozilla launched Firefox.

Pause Animated GIFS in Firefox and IE

Have you ever been on a page with a ton of animated GIF’s, and all you’re trying to do is read the content? It can get quite distracting, but if you’re using Firefox or Internet Explorer just hit the ESC key. Doing so will immediately pause all of the animated GIF images on the page.

Never knew that. Wish I knew this a long time ago.
