With ID theft reaching increasingly alarming proportions, Symantec this week rolled out a battery of new tools geared to helping PC users fight victimization, at a press event Wednesday in New York City. The company’s latest round of heavy artillery includes new Quorum technology, integrated into the now available Norton Internet Security 10 and Norton Antivirus 10, plus a free tool known as the Norton Online Risk Calculator.
Does anyone still use Norton? I stopped using them many years ago because they are just way to much of a resource hog. Have they got any better?
Personally I use AVG for antivirus and Comodo for a firewall.

I haven't personally used Norton products since Symantec took over and ruined them. So I would agree with you, BUT your info is a little dated…Symantec cleaned up their act big time with NAV 2009 — probably the lightest on system resources around. Way faster than the now bloated AVG and others. Also they have a NAV 2009 GAMER EDITION which provides a quick "Turn on Gamer Mode" option to disable certain features and push others to low priority, fully configurable. I can't speak for the new NAV 2010, nor can I attest to the more useless NIS/NSW suites of 2009 or 2010 versions…

My information is based on the last time I use Norton. Once fed up there was no reason to go back.Since you say they cleaned their act up maybe I'll check it out.

Thanx for all the information.

I've stuck with Symantec for years, even through their bloatware. As was said previously, starting with NIS '09, they rewrote their code and it's very fast and light.I'm definitely sticking with them into their '10 version since I read they rewrote their spam module and it's supposed to actually work now.

Symantec products an absolute necessity in a corporate environment with 30,000+ PCs managed by central servers to insure that definition updates are pushed automatically to all PCs, when the latest updates are released fron Symantec. In addition,, they provide corporate response to new virii, with protection released as you identify new virus files.

A business anti-virus solution is a completely different animal
Symantec's corporate solutions seem to have went the opposite direction as the consumer product, the older corporate anti-virus was fast and sleek, but the newer "EndPoint Protection" Suite is a slow, bloated, piece of server-killin' garbage IMHO. Currently I prefer Trend Micro, the WFB suite for an exchange server or if the company is smart enough to buy into Google Apps with Postini then Trend WFB Hosted, because their spam solution isn't very good. I've also been impressed with McAfee's hosted solution but it's a bit slow… AVG also has a hosted solution compatible with Kaseya which is pretty good and incredibly convenient. Far better than their now bloated consumer edition. Just my 2c.
