  • I have tried this on a few of my blogs. It has it's good and bad points to consider.

    On the good side: Those that are blocking ads with either scripts or software will see the ads on the YouTube players. In order to block the ads, they would have to either block all flash or block all YouTube content. They are less likely to be blocking YouTube since they want to be able to see the regular videos that people have on their pages.

    On the bad side: You don't have much control over what videos are shown in the ad units. You are at the mercy of either channels you select (not much to pick from), or keywords and your own content and leave it up to them to select the videos. Their choices aren't always that good, sometimes the stuff they put on your site (based on your page content) can even be considered offensive. Be careful with letting them pick random stuff. You will be better off with selecting a channel that has content less than relevant to your pages.

    Also, the tracking of clicks... You can see how many total clicks your video units have received, but unlike the regular adsense ads, you can't see which site of yours they are coming from. If you put these video units on more than one site, they will be combined into a single channel where the clicks from all video units on all sites will be lumped together as one.

    I am hoping they fix that and let you define custom channels for these at some point, to make tracking easier...and let you pick the list of video content shown, too. I think I can do a much better job picking relevant videos for my sites than they can.

  • The part that bothers me, that you mention, is that I can't control the content.

    I would like to ad ads to a specific video that I want to show through my blog and I can't do that.

    Maybe in a future release.
