Windows Help program no longer included with Windows
Vista does not support the older Windows Help file (.hlp). So if you are upgrading and you have an application that still requires this type of help file then you will need to install support for it yourself - if MS ever releases it.

I don't understand this decision - surely there are programs which still use .hlp files - what is the motivation for not including support for these files, makes no sense to me.

MS attempting to phase out old technologies I guess. Very stupid IMO as I have already seen a bunch of posts about people having applications with no help files in Vista because of this.

yeah i understand the desire to fade out older stuff, but this seems so harlmess i don't get the point. And i don't remember any talk about it being phased out.. just sounds silly to me. they don't have to keep distrbuting a help MAKER the produces .hlp but surely including the ability to read the files should have been a no-brainer.

This is Microsoft were talking about so it makes perfect sense. Sometimes they don't make the best choices...
