Keepass out, Roboform in

I was using Keepass for many, many years and never really knew what I was missing until I really gave Roboform a try (only gave it the 100 mile look before). I must say Roboform is an excellent product that saves me a lot of time logging into the 100's of secure websites that I access (and no they are not porn sites). Sorry Keepass but you have a long way to go to compete with the big boys.

This is a must application for anyone.

  • It is good but it can get on your nerves sometimes.

  • Great post! I'm a huge RoboForm fan and I get tired of hearing people say that Keepass is so cool.

RoboForm easily beats Keepass, and it also beats the built-in Password Manager in Firefox and Safari's AutoFill.

The main problem with RoboForm is that it doesn't support Mac. As a recent switcher, I couldn't live without this functionality on my mac so I wrote my own Mac Password Manager to fill the void. Those roboform users switching to Mac will definitely want to check out 1Passwd.

  • I've used RoboForm for three versions now and it's far more complex than it was. But it makes living among two addresses and two computers much easier. I can just copy (or upload) my 'roboform' password folder and not have a single worry.

  • What RoboForm solved for me was that Firefox would not store or recall login information for certain sites. This means I had to open Keepass and copy and paste the password. Roboform saves me minutes a day accessing secure sites...

  • RoboForm is much more powerful than KeePass but ...

I switched from RoboForm to KeePass because Portable RoboForm was a pain with Kaspersky Internet Security's Proactivce Defense (disabled by default) because Portable RoboForm unpacks from the USB drive every logon and KIS (rightly) saw every newly unpacked file as a new file and needed manual confirmation that they were OK.

The secondary reason for migrating was that there's no Linux version of RoboForm and I'm pre-positioning to make XP my last version of Windows.

Thirdly RoboForm has lousy import/export (especially export) and I don't like vendor lock-in.

In a way it doesn't matter that KeePass is less powerful -- it's "good enough" for what I want to do with it 99% of the time.

    Best
