Where's the technology?

It seems strange at some of the things I do today, as it was done in the past. With all the advances in technology then why am I still doing things the same way?

Why?
  • Do I still have to fill out a deposit slip at the bank? Can't I have my debit card scanned to grab all my information and sign some sort of display. Can't they use biometrics to know I am who I am. Can't they electronically scan my check to grab the amount?
  • Do I still need to wait in line at the grocery store to check out? Can't I be given a scanner that I walk around with in the store and scan things as I put them in my cart (checking out would be some sort of verification and final payment process) Can't they scan my whole cart in one swoop with RFID's? Can't they get the self-checkouts to actually work right without being so damn annoying with touch product here and place product there and don't move the bags now.
  • Do I really need someone to checkout a movie at Blockbuster? Can't I perform a self-checkout with my credit / debit card?
The reason for the post is the past week the above three thing annoyed the hell out of me.

  • I think #2 could be around the corner, what with Walmart pushing RFID and all...

  • Dude, where have you been? Haven't you noticed those annoying old people who think writing a check is more secure than an ATM/CC transaction? They drive me nuts, especially since it takes them five minutes to write and approve a check anymore.

You might have to wait for the world to implement these, since businesses are about maximizing profits, and that might cut into the 'shareholder profit' for the quarter or year.

  • Seen them? I am stuck behind the check writers everytime I check out. All I think is "haven't they heard of a debit card".
