Consolas font part II
For those who may be interested in the new Consolas font from Microsoft and see that its only available to users of Visual Studio 2005 there may be a workaround.
Microsoft has made a free version of Visual Studio 2005 available called Visual Basic Express 2005. This application may be enough to get the new font installed. Might be too much trouble for you but I really like the font and would have gone through the trouble to get it onto my system.

Has somebody tried Universal Extractor http://tinyurl.com/qzm5p [legroom.net] on this?

Universal Extractor doesn't work on this MSI. It performs a hard check for Visual Studio, and will not allow even an administrative installation without it, which is how Universal Extractor currently works.
However, I was able to extract the font using Less MSIérables. It seemed to have trouble with it, but you should be able to extract it via command line with this version:

or via GUI with this version:

I'm looking into adding this as an option for MSIs that currently fail with UniExtract, but there are a few issues to work out first. I haven't yet had time to contact the Less MSIérables author yet about it, but hopefully will be able to do so in the next couple weeks.
Stay tuned. :-)

By the way, I just wanted to add that while the font is nice, I personally still prefer Bitstream Vera Sans Mono. I find the Bitstream font more legible at smaller font sizes. I generally code in gVim at 8pt, so this ia a good thing. :-)

I have to look into Bitstream. I use a 10pt font and Consolas works like a charm for me...
