Consolas Font hits a homerun with me

Microsoft has come up with a new font that has been designed with developers in mind. Consolas, the new font, looks great and I think will become my font of choice to develop in.

The Microsoft Consolas Font Family is a set of highly legible fonts designed for ClearType. It is intended for use in programming environments and other circumstances where a monospaced font is specified.

Then check out Cfont Pro to manage your new font and all your fonts.

(be warned that they are only allowing users of Visual Studio 2005 to use it but it may work for you - download and try it)

  • Wish it was system wide rather than just for VStudio. Great font. The several Vista fonts will be well worth it.

  • I agree. I know MS has worked with some of the world's best font makers for the new fonts in Vista. Who ever thought a font could be amazing but some are.

In case you missed it here is my blog post on the new fonts.

    Enjoy!

  • Thanks for the link and reminder of the coming new fonts. I bought and use Frutiger Next LT, which is incredibly clear and readable; looks good on screen and paper. But Consolas should be SO MUCH better than Courier New from now on.

  • Works for me on XP SP2. I don't have Visual Studio 2005 installed, but I do have the free Express version, so maybe that's what lets it work.

  • I thought about posting that it may work with the free version of Visual Studio Express. Thanks for letting me know...
