The Successful Home Freelancer's Guide

Fire your Boss! The Successful Home Freelancer's Guide: "Most people, at one time or another, have a job that rewards their time and effort with wages or salaries. An increasing number of people, however, are becoming dissatisfied with that time-and-effort economy and seek the greater rewards that a results economy can provide."

Be warned: It's not easy and life as you know it will change. There is no getting away from the job and everything must be handled by you, at least in the beginning (accounting, sales, marketing, company development, and work on projects).

My Points:
  • Make sure you love your work or be somewhat obsessed with it. The best consultants / freelancers have a weird obsession with their work.
  • Make sure you set time aside to work on the business as well as work in the business.
  • Relax everyonce in a while. Its really hard to get away from work but you need to step back and breath or you will go crazy.
  • Setup your accounting software (or accountant) early. Makes life a lot easier. I use Quickbooks.
  • Website, website, website. A professional website gives clients confidence. That's what selling is all about - building confidence.
  • Get all your legal forms and business forms developed. Having these forms created and branded will make you look more professional
  • Start selling right away. Don't spend too much time developing a foundation for a business. You can't have a business without clients.
  • Read E-Myth.
  • Check out some of the links I compiled awhile back.
