First Page 2006 might be too slow
I recently started playing around with the beta version of First Page 2006 as the previous versions had been an excellent code-based web creation tool. I must say so far I am a bit disappointed in the IDE.
There is this annoying flickering going on when you type any code or move the mouse around the document being edited. This is so annoying that I couldn't work in it for very long. Hopefully this is a beta only issue and will be worked out before the final release.
Will wait for the next beta release before doing any really extensive testing.

(should note that the new version does contain some very promising and what seems to be powerful features so check it out for yourself)

Shouldn't be a problem if you already know what your typing, then just look after your done to review and make sure everything is correct, but oh wait it already does that for you! Just be glad they are making a new updated one.. Or else you might be stuck using Frontpage or dare I say it.. *Shudders* DreamWeaver :p

I look at the screen when I type and use the mouse as most people do...
Not happy with the way they went about creating the application and broken promises for years. I was a happy user of the first version and have since moved on to other tools - been 4 or 5 years since the last version.
Will still see what the release version is like but will not buy given the track record with updates. I want a product that is actively supported.
Nothing wrong with Dreamweaver. As far as WYSIWYG editors it creates some of the cleanest code...
With that being said I will stick with a text-editor for 95% and Dreamweaver for the over 5% of my work...

I've only just discovered that the Beta is out -- I thought we'd be emailed to notify us, that's why I signed up, did I miss it/did my spam trap section it?
My immediate response is disappointment: it doesn't appear to support xhtml out-of-the-box -- the shortcut keys are still for HTML 4 tags. Is there any way to fix that?

It doesn't surprise me that its not natively compliant to XHTML. Wonder if its up to speed with CSS2 and has the foundation for CSS3 when that comes out...

I agree, however the new version loads 3x faster than the beta. The load time on the old app was about 36 seconds, the updated version takes about 10 seconds. (This is regarding BETA 2).
Furthermore it has full automatic support for XHTML now. So if you were to have a XHTML document open it would add < img > tags as < img />, the correct way.

Still slow, no support, no forum, go figure :)
There are others out there and with the development so slow, I will not be surprised if others develop their software to match the feature set.
